US says preparations for Chinese president's visit continue despite election interference claims

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that preparations are ongoing for Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States, despite accusations from President Donald Trump that Beijing is interfering in the US elections.

Rubio stated that President Xi's visit, scheduled for September, remains on the agenda, noting that China continues to send representatives regularly to coordinate the trip.

China, for its part, has strongly denied President Donald Trump's allegations of election interference, dismissing them as "utter nonsense" and reaffirming its commitment to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

China's response came just days after Trump made comments while declassifying intelligence related to what he described as "serious vulnerabilities" in the US election system. The allegations involved several parties, including Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and non-state actors, all accused of having the capacity to influence US election infrastructure.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated at a press conference China's adherence to the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, stressing that Beijing has neither an interest in nor a history of interfering in US elections.
