Arab League chief condemns Israeli violations in southern Lebanon

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy reaffirmed full Arab support for Lebanon’s position in condemning Israel’s recent violations and attacks in southern Lebanon, particularly the latest explosions targeting infrastructure and UNESCO World Heritage sites. He described these acts as blatant breaches of international laws and norms.

Fahmy emphasized solidarity with Lebanon in preserving its security, stability, and sovereignty. He warned that Israel’s continued aggressive actions threaten to undermine ongoing negotiations, and called for immediate international intervention—especially from the United States, as a sponsor of the talks—to halt these Israeli assaults and ensure full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which he said is a crucial guarantee for Lebanon’s sovereign rights.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun praised the efforts of the national army, stating: “Our army in the south is writing remarkable chapters of sacrifice and resilience. With every step of Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, the army’s responsibility grows. The next phase requires full deployment of military units along the southern border and exclusive state authority over all its land, demonstrating to the world that Lebanon, through its army alone, can protect its sovereignty and secure this sensitive region, paving the way for the safe return of residents to their villages and towns.”
