Hamas elects Khalil Al-Hayya as political bureau chief

Hamas announced on Monday the election of Khalil Al-Hayya as head of its political bureau, following an internal vote described as consultative and institutional, with participation from representatives in Gaza, the West Bank, Israeli prisons, and abroad.

In its statement, Hamas congratulated Al-Hayya on earning the confidence of its institutions, saying that completing this electoral process amid highly complex security and political conditions, ongoing hostilities, and the targeting of its leaders, demonstrates that Hamas is governed by regulations and consultative bodies.

The movement expressed appreciation for the resilience of Gaza’s residents in the face of what it called a “genocidal war,” and extended greetings to Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank, areas inside Israel since 1948, and the diaspora.

Hamas also saluted prisoners in Israeli jails who participated in the consultative process despite restrictions, affirming that securing their release remains a top priority.

The movement paid tribute to its leaders and members it said had fallen, especially those whom Hamas described as martyrs of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation, naming Ismail Haniyeh, Saleh Al-Arouri, Yahya Sinwar, and the Qassam Brigades’ commander Mohammed Deif, as well as other members of Hamas and allied factions. Hamas is the source of these claims; Haniyeh and Sinwar are alive.

Hamas outlined its current political and field priorities, stating that the foremost is ending the ongoing offensive, lifting the blockade on Gaza, ensuring the entry of humanitarian and medical aid, and starting reconstruction efforts.

The movement also reiterated its absolute rejection of all displacement plans, stressing its continued support for Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank facing daily violations.

Hamas called for unified national efforts across all arenas to confront major challenges, emphasizing the need to address them with awareness, steadfastness, and commitment to the interests of the Palestinian people.

The statement concluded by thanking the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nations, countries that have hosted the movement, and all supporters of the Palestinian cause worldwide, affirming its commitment to the sacrifices of martyrs, prisoners, and the wounded until liberation and return are achieved.
