Egypt welcomes US decision to remove Syria from terrorism sponsors list

Egypt has welcomed the United States' decision to remove the Syrian Arab Republic from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing the move as a contribution to efforts to achieve stability in Syria and to boost prospects for economic recovery and reconstruction.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the decision creates favorable conditions for Syria to resume its role in the Arab world and internationally.

Egypt called for continued support for the Syrian people at this stage, in a way that helps the Syrian state regain its strength and reinforce its national institutions, while preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

The ministry stressed that respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is a fundamental pillar for achieving lasting stability in Syria and the wider region.
