Palestinian presidency urges UN Security Council to convene after Israeli raid on UN offices

The Palestinian presidency has called on the United Nations Security Council to convene urgently, assume its legal and political responsibilities, and take binding decisions and measures to halt Israeli attacks on United Nations offices and institutions in Jerusalem and Qalandiya. The presidency said these sites were stormed by Israel’s Minister of National Security in preparation for demolishing UNRWA facilities in Qalandiya, and called for protection of these institutions so they can fulfill their duties to Palestinian refugees in accordance with international law.

In an official statement, the presidency stressed that targeting UN offices and institutions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, constitutes a serious violation of international law and the immunity of international institutions, and represents a dangerous escalation that cannot be ignored.

The presidency said these attacks are part of a systematic and ongoing Israeli policy targeting the Palestinian people, their institutions, and national rights. It added that this comes alongside the ongoing war, blockade, and escalation of Israeli aggression against cities, villages, and refugee camps in Gaza and the West Bank, including killings, arrests, demolitions, displacement, rising settler violence, land seizures, settlement expansion, annexation attempts, and efforts to impose new realities on the ground, all in blatant violation of international law and UN resolutions.

The presidency emphasized that what is happening in Jerusalem, Qalandiya, and the West Bank is part of an integrated policy aimed at undermining the Palestinian presence and changing the geographic and demographic reality of the occupied territories, entrenching occupation, annexation, and settlement expansion, and undermining prospects for peace and a two-state solution.

It added that the continuation of these policies in the absence of international accountability encourages the Israeli government to persist in its violations, posing a serious threat to regional security and stability and to the entire international legal order.

The presidency renewed its call for the international community to implement relevant United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian issue, especially Security Council Resolution 2334, and to halt all illegal Israeli actions that undermine the two-state solution, leading to an end to the occupation and the realization of an independent State of Palestine on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
