Iran repaid Gulf goodwill with aggression, says researcher

Iran affairs researcher Wojdan Abdulrahman has said that Iran has responded to the goodwill of Gulf Arab states with acts of aggression and targeting.

Speaking in an interview on Al Arabiya FM, Abdulrahman added that the latest message from Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to his people, in which he addressed Gulf states, was an attempt to appear as an adviser to the region.

He continued that the Supreme Leader claims in his message to know what is best for these countries, while rhetorically suggesting he would even open the door to negotiations with those he accuses of being responsible for the killing of his father, the late Supreme Leader, in order to preserve his regime. Abdulrahman noted that Gulf states seek to safeguard their security and economic interests, and to maintain economic and political relations with the United States.

The researcher added that if Iran were to build relations with Gulf states, it would secure economic opportunities for itself and protect its national security. He said Gulf countries have made every effort to bring Iran back into the fold of international politics, tried to prevent war, and played a significant role in protecting the Iranian regime, but Iran's response has been aggression against these states.
