Iraqi parliament speaker condemns use of Iraqi territory to threaten Saudi Arabia

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi has rejected the use of Iraqi territory to launch attacks against Saudi Arabia or any neighboring country.

In a statement, he condemned the recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed that using Iraqi land or airspace to threaten the security of the Kingdom or any neighboring state is unacceptable and condemned. He stressed that such actions do not align with Iraq’s policies, national interests, or its relations with its neighbors and fellow Arab states.

Al-Halbousi emphasized the importance of ensuring that weapons remain under the control of the state and its constitutional institutions, under the command of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. He said this would strengthen state sovereignty, safeguard Iraq’s security and stability, and prevent the country from being drawn into regional conflicts.

He also voiced support for the measures taken by the Iraqi government, especially the launch of an urgent investigation to identify those responsible for the attacks and to take legal action against anyone found involved. He praised the government’s efforts to contain the situation and maintain fraternal relations with Saudi Arabia in a way that protects Iraq’s interests and helps avoid further escalation in the region.
