Political analyst and Israeli affairs adviser Majdi Al-Halabi explained the reasons behind US efforts to maintain negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.

In a phone interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Halabi said Washington is pushing for continued talks between Lebanon and Israel despite escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, noting US sensitivity toward the Israeli government as elections approach.

He added that the United States wants to hold negotiation rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, insisting on keeping the dialogue open even as Israel continues its military operations and measures in southern Lebanon.

Al-Halabi continued that the negotiations could intensify or halt altogether if there is a major change in the Israeli government, and a decision might be made to postpone the Lebanese and Syrian files. He also pointed out that several issues remain unresolved between Lebanon and Israel.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has emphasized that Israeli withdrawal, the return of prisoners and displaced persons, and reconstruction are national priorities he is committed to fulfilling for the Lebanese people.
