Trump weighs limited Iran strikes near Hormuz to deter shipping threats

US President Donald Trump is considering a plan for limited strikes against Iran in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Tehran from threatening maritime navigation, according to US news site Axios. The plan has not yet received official approval.

Axios reported that Trump has reviewed a proposal involving targeted strikes around the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Pete Hegseth—described in the Arabic source as 'US Secretary of War,' though he has not held that position—supports this option currently under consideration by the president.

The plan for "limited US strikes" against Iran has not yet been approved, Axios added.

These developments follow Trump’s threat on Monday to respond forcefully to the Iranian missile attack that targeted US forces in Jordan, affirming that the United States would strike Iran.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, "We will hit them hard," explaining that US air defenses intercepted all but one of the Iranian missiles launched at American forces, with the remaining missile not expected to hit any significant target.

The US president also indicated that Iran is eager to hold talks with the American side, but he expressed doubt about trusting Tehran to reach an agreement while US sanctions remain in place.
