Trump counting on Russia-China deal to end Ukraine war, analyst says

Ourag Ramadan, director of the Aurès Center for Strategic Studies, said that American President Donald Trump is relying on a deal with Russia and China to end the war in Ukraine.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Ramadan added that the American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to bring offers and exert pressure on Kyiv, noting that the Russian-American draft will be reintroduced and Trump will try to impose it on Kyiv.

He explained that the arrival of Trump's envoys in Kyiv signals a message combining offers and pressure, as Trump wants to end the war because he has the midterm congressional elections.

The director of the Aurès Center further stated that Trump wants to strike a bargain with Russia and China to pressure Ukraine, pointing out that the American president confirmed a change in the military situation after Russia gained the initiative on the front.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has temporarily halted strikes on Kyiv amid debate over a ceasefire proposed by Ukraine along the front line, coinciding with the American envoys’ visit aimed at containing the conflict.
