Brazil's Lula: World held hostage by UN Security Council paralysis

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized the United Nations and its Security Council, condemning their failure to eradicate the scourge of war.

In his speech at the UN, Lula said the organization had failed in one of its most important duties—freeing humanity from the plague of war. "The UN's credibility has never been so weak," he added. "We have all become hostages to the inaction of the Security Council and its failure to fulfill its role."

He described the situation as a paralysis of the United Nations, calling for the restoration of political initiative so the organization can once again be a pillar of peace. Lula also addressed the situation in Brazil, noting that the presidential election is less than two weeks away amid growing concerns over possible foreign interference, particularly from Trump-aligned circles supporting his main rival, Jair Bolsonaro Jr.
