Saudi Masam project clears 1,721 landmines in Yemen in one week

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s Masam project announced the removal of 1,721 landmines from various regions of Yemen during the third week of September 2026.

The center stated that the cleared explosives included 44 anti-personnel mines, 85 anti-tank mines, and 1,592 unexploded ordnance items.

Mine clearance operations by governorate

The report indicated that Masam teams removed 265 unexploded ordnance items, 22 anti-personnel mines, and 8 anti-tank munitions in Aden governorate. In Al-Mukalla district, Hadramout governorate, 1,161 unexploded ordnance items were cleared.

In Midi district, Hajjah governorate, teams removed 3 anti-personnel mines, 46 anti-tank mines, and 60 unexploded ordnance items. In Ayn district, Shabwa governorate, 31 anti-tank mines and 104 unexploded ordnance items were cleared, in addition to two unexploded ordnance items in Al-Muzaffar district, Taiz governorate.

Total mines cleared

The report added that the number of mines cleared since the beginning of August has reached 3,887. Since the launch of the Masam project, a total of 592,212 landmines and unexploded ordnance items have been removed to date.

Saudi Arabia continues its humanitarian efforts through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to clear landmines from Yemeni territory, as part of a project aimed at enhancing civilian safety and enabling Yemenis to live safer, more dignified lives.
