Iran-Oman maritime agreement does not mean reopening Strait of Hormuz: Mehr

Iran's Mehr news agency has clarified that the final understanding between Iran and Oman on new maritime arrangements does not mean the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that resuming access to the strait remains contingent on the United States meeting seven conditions set by Tehran.

Citing an informed source, the agency reported that following technical and diplomatic talks in early September, Iran and Oman reached a final agreement on new routes for entering and exiting Gulf waters. The understanding is expected to be formally announced soon in the presence of foreign ministers from regional countries.

The source explained that the agreement was made solely between Iran and Oman, while other countries—including Iraq and Gulf littoral states—will attend the upcoming meeting to be briefed on the details of the routes and navigation arrangements.

According to Mehr, the entire entry route into Gulf waters, as well as part of the exit route, will lie within Iranian territorial waters, with navigation along these routes to be conducted under arrangements determined by Iran.
