Rescue teams race to save Algerian boy trapped in 80-meter well

The village of Al-Rukn in the El-Gassoul municipality of southwest Algeria is gripped by anxiety after a 10-year-old boy, Ayoub, fell into a dry artesian well. Civil defense teams are continuing their efforts to reach and rescue him.

Algeria's civil defense authorities said the boy fell into a well about 80 meters deep and only 40 centimeters wide, making the rescue operation extremely difficult due to the narrow diameter and significant depth. The incident has drawn parallels to the case of Moroccan child Rayan, who died several years ago after falling into a deep well.

Ayoub reportedly fell on Wednesday morning while crossing a wooden plank covering the well's opening. Reports indicate the well was dug using traditional methods and lacked a protective casing pipe, further complicating rescue efforts.

Rescue teams are facing major challenges due to the well's narrow width and depth, as well as the location's terrain. Field operations are ongoing as teams work to reach Ayoub and bring him out safely.
