Trump banking on Iranian unrest to push for full terms, US source says

A US official involved in negotiations with Iran said on Monday that President Donald Trump is seeking a permanent solution with Tehran based on his full set of conditions.

The official told Al Arabiya that the US administration is closely monitoring growing public anger in Iran over the country's economic situation.

He added that Trump is relying on internal pressure within Iran to push through all his demands during the negotiations.

Last week, Iran presented a peace proposal at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which it said was relayed to the US side through intermediaries. However, Trump announced on Saturday that he had rejected the proposal.

In a related development, Trump told Axios in a phone interview on Sunday that US negotiators are expected to hold further talks with Iran this week.
