Trump rolls back Biden-era electric vehicle mandate with new fuel efficiency standards

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he has approved new fuel efficiency standards, overturning the electric vehicle mandate introduced by his predecessor, Joe Biden.

In a post on social media, Trump stated, "These new standards will end waste in the American auto industry. This means lower prices, saving families thousands of dollars when buying a new, beautiful, and safe car."

Last month, the Trump administration announced it would soon unveil significantly less stringent fuel efficiency standards, reversing the previous administration's push for automakers to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles.

During Biden's term, the US administration sought to encourage automakers to expand electric vehicle production to meet increasingly strict fuel efficiency requirements.
