US Embassy in Saudi Arabia working with authorities to evacuate citizens

The USEmbassy in Saudi Arabia sent out a nationwide alert on Saturday morningadvising American expatriates looking to return to their country on what stepsto take.

The alert informed that the US mission would be working with Saudiauthorities to arrange repatriation flights on a commercial airline. Theairline itself as well as flight times and departure/arrival locations have yetto be confirmed.

Those interested will need enroll themselves in the SmartTraveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service from the Bureau ofConsular affairs, US Department of State, that allows US citizensand nationals traveling and living abroad to register their trip.

The post went on to state that the embassy would inform allpersons registered in the STEP system as soon as the flights were confirmed.The information would also be posted on the embassy website and on the officialTwitter account of American Citizen Services, US Mission Saudi Arabia.

According to the mission website, citizens wishing to depart fromSaudi Arabia on one of these flights would have to conduct all reservation andbooking transactions directly with the airline and arrange for their own travelupon arriving in the United States.
