Al-Ittihad signs Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on free transfer

Al-Ittihad has announced the signing of veteran Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a one-year free transfer, finalizing the deal just before the close of the summer transfer window in Saudi Arabia.

Wijnaldum, 35, spent the past three seasons with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq. He was recently linked with a move to Chelsea as a potential replacement for Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez, especially after Chelsea’s failed attempt to sign Monaco’s Lamine Camara.

Al-Ittihad managed to secure the former Liverpool star’s signature despite offers from European clubs. Wijnaldum has previously played for top teams including Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United, and Roma, and won both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with Liverpool.

Al-Ittihad in the Roshn League

Al-Ittihad is competing in the Saudi Roshn League and comes off a recent victory over Al-Nassr, currently sitting fourth in the table after five rounds, four points behind leaders Al-Hilal.
