Newcastle United appoints German coach Matthias Jaissle

English Premier League club Newcastle United has appointed German coach Matthias Jaissle as first-team manager, succeeding Englishman Eddie Howe.

In a statement, the club said Jaissle was selected for his coaching record, ability to develop players, and his skill in building cohesive and disciplined teams.

Jaissle has enjoyed notable success in his managerial career, leading Austria's Red Bull Salzburg to a domestic league and cup double and guiding the club to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages for the first time in its history. He later moved to Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli, where he won the AFC Champions League Elite title in two consecutive seasons, becoming the first coach to achieve this feat.

Jaissle said Newcastle United's ambitions and future vision were key factors in his decision to accept the role, stressing his commitment to developing the team and continuing its success through a focus on teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement.

Club CEO David Hopkinson said Jaissle was the leading candidate for the position, noting that his coaching record, leadership skills, and ongoing ambition to develop the team align with the club's vision and goals for the coming period.
