Erdogan congratulates Spain on 2026 World Cup victory over Argentina

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent a congratulatory message to Spain's national football team after their triumph in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement posted on his official social media accounts late Monday, Erdogan extended heartfelt congratulations to Spain for their World Cup victory.

"On behalf of my country and my people, I send my greetings and affection to the friendly Spanish people," the Turkish president said in his message.

The Spanish team, known as La Roja, secured their second World Cup title after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final held at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Turkey exits early from tournament

Meanwhile, Turkey was eliminated in the group stage, despite a single win over hosts the United States with a 3-2 scoreline, and losses to Australia by two goals and to Paraguay by one goal.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup was hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
