CAF expands Africa Cup of Nations to 28 teams for 2027

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that the number of teams competing in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals will increase from 24 to 28.

Motsepe made the announcement during a press conference held Wednesday in Johannesburg, explaining that the next edition of the tournament will include four additional teams. He described the decision as a reflection of the ongoing development of African football and a step toward providing more opportunities for member nations.

Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are set to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations from June 19 to July 17, marking the first time the tournament will be jointly organized by three countries in East Africa.
