Champions League final to return to Camp Nou in 2029 after 30 years

UEFA announced on Tuesday that Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium will host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, beating out London's Wembley Stadium, which was among the leading contenders.

The decision gives Barcelona the opportunity to stage a major match one year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco. Other candidates for the final included Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu and a new large stadium under construction in Casablanca, Morocco.

Upcoming European finals

UEFA's executive committee confirmed that the 2028 Champions League final will be held at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena, which was the sole candidate and will host the event three years after staging the 2025 edition.

Renovation work continues at Camp Nou, with the stadium's capacity set to reach 105,000 spectators.

Camp Nou last hosted the Champions League final in 1999, when Manchester United secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in stoppage time.

Since then, Wembley has hosted the final three times—in 2011, 2013, and 2024—bringing its total to eight finals since the competition began 71 years ago. Camp Nou will host the final for the third time in its history, having previously staged it in 1989, when AC Milan beat Steaua Bucharest 4-0.

This season's Champions League final will take place in Madrid at Atlético Madrid's Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium.

UEFA also announced that the Europa League final will be held in Bucharest in 2028 and in Belgrade in 2029. The Europa Conference League final will take place at Juventus' Allianz Stadium in 2028 and at Budapest's Puskás Aréna in 2029. The UEFA Super Cup will be played at Amsterdam's Johan Cruyff Arena in 2027 and at Astana Arena in Kazakhstan in 2028.
