Nawaf Boushal hails Saudi win over Iraq, eyes Gulf Cup glory

Saudi national team defender Nawaf Boushal expressed his great happiness with the valuable 2-0 victory over Iraq on Tuesday night, stressing that the win reflects the team’s strong performance throughout the group stage of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup. He noted that qualifying for the semifinals with a perfect record and no setbacks demonstrates their consistency.

Speaking exclusively to Ajel after the match, Boushal said: “First and foremost, thanks to God for this important win and for achieving a perfect record in the group stage. I thank my teammates and the technical and administrative staff for the high spirits and tremendous efforts we showed throughout this phase.”

He added: “This victory gives us a huge morale boost and extra confidence for the next stage and the knockout rounds. We are determined to go far in this tournament and bring joy to Saudi football fans by winning the cup. We will continue to work hard in the upcoming matches to achieve our goals.”

With this win, Saudi Arabia made history by topping their group with nine points—a perfect record—for the first time since the two-group system was introduced at Gulf Cup 17 in 2004.

The Green Falcons began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Kuwait, followed by a 3-0 victory against Oman, and concluded the group stage by defeating Iraq 2-0, securing the best possible result in the first round.
