Real Madrid reject Lille bid for Thiago Betarch, commit to young talent

Real Madrid have closed the door on an approach from French club Lille to sign young midfielder Thiago Betarch, after Lille identified him as a potential replacement for Moroccan Ayoub Bouaddi, who is expected to join Manchester City.

According to The Athletic, Real Madrid rejected Lille's offer for Betarch, making it clear that the Spanish giants have no plans to part with the 19-year-old, despite the French club's interest during the current transfer window.

Madrid's decision to keep Betarch comes just days after the player signed an improved contract with the club, reflecting the management's confidence in his abilities and their desire to retain one of the squad's brightest emerging talents.

Bouaddi set for Manchester City move

The report noted that Betarch was Lille coach Davide Ancelotti's preferred choice to replace Bouaddi, who is preparing to join Manchester City on a contract running until 2031.

The Athletic revealed that Manchester City have reached an agreement with Lille to sign Bouaddi for €95 million, plus €5 million in add-ons, making the Moroccan midfielder one of the English club's standout signings this summer.

However, Lille's efforts were thwarted by Real Madrid's refusal to let go of Betarch, who gradually established himself in the first team last season.

Betarch shines for Real Madrid and Spain

Betarch made 16 appearances for Real Madrid's first team, providing two assists and impressing with his technical skills, movement, and ability to cover large areas in midfield.

He made history in the UEFA Champions League by becoming the youngest player ever to feature for Real Madrid in the quarterfinals, at 18 years and 247 days old. He also started both legs of the round of 16 against Manchester City and was in the starting lineup for the first leg of the quarterfinal against Bayern Munich.

Internationally, Betarch was a key member of Spain's squad that won the UEFA Under-19 European Championship this summer, delivering five assists and starting every match in the tournament.

As Lille continue their search for a Bouaddi replacement, Real Madrid's stance is clear: Betarch is not for sale, and his future appears to be in Madrid.
