Fiorentina sack coach Fabian Grosso after three straight Serie A defeats

Italian club Fiorentina have dismissed their coach Fabian Grosso after the team suffered three consecutive defeats in Serie A this season, making him the first manager to be sacked among clubs in Europe's top five leagues this campaign.

Fiorentina endured a heavy 4-0 loss to Roma, then were beaten 3-0 at home by newly promoted Frosinone, before falling again at home to Torino 2-1. The team managed to score just once while conceding nine goals across the three matches.

Grosso departs Fiorentina after less than three months

The club parted ways with Grosso, the former Italy international defender, less than three months after his appointment. Grosso had signed a two-year contract when he was named as the replacement for coach Paolo Vanoli.

Grosso is best known for scoring the decisive penalty in the 2006 World Cup final against France. He previously coached French side Olympique Lyon and enjoyed success with Sassuolo, whom he guided to promotion from Serie B.

Local reports suggest Fiorentina's management are set to appoint Thiago Motta as the new head coach ahead of Friday's anticipated clash with Venezia.
