Saudi stadium upgrades cement Kingdom’s global sports ambitions under Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia is continuing to upgrade its sports facilities and infrastructure in line with Vision 2030, aiming to meet the highest international standards and strengthen its position as a leading destination for major global sporting events and tournaments.

In recent years, the Kingdom has hosted numerous international and continental championships at its modern stadiums, most notably King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, which features a main stadium with a capacity of over 62,000 spectators and has welcomed prominent regional and global competitions. Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City in Jeddah has also resumed hosting sporting events after being redeveloped to the latest technical specifications.

Ongoing development of sports venues across the Kingdom

In Riyadh, King Fahd Sports City is undergoing a comprehensive renovation and modernization project to meet global standards, enhancing its readiness to host major international sporting events in the future.

These initiatives coincide with the construction of several new stadiums that mark a significant leap for the national sports scene. Among them is the Aramco Stadium in Khobar, set to open next month with a capacity of nearly 47,000 spectators, and scheduled to host matches for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, which the Kingdom will stage early next year.

Future projects in preparation for the 2034 FIFA World Cup

Preparations are underway for the construction of the Jeddah Central Stadium, inspired by the city’s architectural and historical heritage, and the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya, which will serve as a model for multi-purpose venues. Plans also include several new stadiums in various regions as part of preparations to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

According to Saudi Arabia’s plan for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, fifteen stadiums across five major cities will be utilized, including the construction of 11 new venues and the redevelopment of four existing ones. This reflects the scale of investment in sports infrastructure and underscores the Kingdom’s growing status on the global sports map.
