Diomande says Real Madrid move 'impossible to refuse', credits Mourinho

New Real Madrid signing Yans Diomande has said that joining the Spanish club was an offer he could not refuse, describing playing for "the biggest club in the world" as a dream he has had since childhood.

The Ivorian midfielder joined Real Madrid from German side RB Leipzig after several weeks of negotiations. According to media reports, the deal is worth €140 million including bonuses, making Diomande the most expensive player in the Spanish club’s history.

Speaking to the Real Madrid website, the 19-year-old said: "I am proud and happy. I have dreamed since I was a child of playing for the biggest team in the world, and now I am here. I want to make my family proud. I am at the biggest club in the world and I am grateful to be here. I want to succeed with the club."

He added: "When the biggest club in the world wants you, you cannot say no. I expect success with the club and to win every trophy. In the past, I watched Real Madrid players on television, but today I am with them."

The Ivorian also acknowledged the tough competition at Real Madrid, saying: "Things are difficult here, and that’s normal. I need to give my best and I want to contribute to the club’s success."

Diomande revealed that coach Jose Mourinho played a key role in his move to Real Madrid, expressing his gratitude to him, the club, and its officials.

He said: "I want to thank the coach. We spoke previously, and I am here because of him and the club as well. I also want to thank the officials for trusting me."

Real Madrid are preparing for the new season, with their La Liga opener against Espanyol scheduled for August 22.
