Al-Ittihad hosts Shabab Al-Ahli in AFC Elite Champions League clash

Saudi club Al-Ittihad will host the UAE’s Shabab Al-Ahli today, Tuesday, at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, in the second round of the 2026-2027 AFC Elite Champions League West Zone.

Al-Ittihad enters the match aiming for its first win in the tournament after drawing 1-1 with Al-Shamal of Qatar in the opening round, with Georginio Wijnaldum equalizing in stoppage time. Shabab Al-Ahli, meanwhile, began their continental campaign with a 1-0 victory over Tractor of Iran, courtesy of a goal from Yuri Cesar.

Twice crowned continental champions, Al-Ittihad will look to capitalize on home advantage and fan support to secure a positive result that boosts their standing in the competition and gives them momentum in their Asian campaign. Shabab Al-Ahli, for their part, aim to build on their strong start and secure a result that strengthens their chances of advancing to the next round.

The encounter is crucial for both teams as they seek to collect points and improve their positions in the West Zone standings. Each team will play eight matches in the league phase, with the top eight clubs from each zone advancing to the Round of 16.

The Round of 16 matches are scheduled for March 2027, while Saudi Arabia will host the final stages—including the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final—in a centralized format.
