Kylian Mbappe says he sets no limits on football ambitions

Kylian Mbappe, striker for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team, has said he sets no limits on his ambitions in football, stressing that he is not thinking about retirement or age at this stage. In an interview with France Football magazine, he explained that he wants to continue playing for as long as possible.

Mbappe joked, "I see myself playing until I am 100 years old if necessary," but also noted the importance of knowing when to stop, saying: "It is smart to know when you are no longer able to continue."

Messi and Ronaldo as inspiration

Mbappe said he draws lessons from the careers of two of football’s greatest legends, Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, describing them as "a category of different players among different players," adding: "In this category, there are only two."

While he made clear that he does not place himself on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo, the French star admitted they have been a major source of inspiration for him, saying: "I am from the generation that came after them. I was inspired by them. They changed the rules of the game and transformed how we think about football. There is football before them and after them."

No pressure, ambition remains

Mbappe added that striving to reach the level of Messi and Ronaldo is not a source of pressure, but rather a challenge that motivates him to improve, explaining: "There is no pressure in saying you are not as strong as Messi or Ronaldo; that is not a bad thing."

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of ambition, saying: "We only have one career, and we should try to be better than anyone else."

In previous comments, Mbappe said he is not thinking about continuing to play until the age of forty, noting that his goal is to make history for his country, not to silence critics.
