Trump criticizes England's tactics against Argentina in World Cup semifinal

Former US President Donald Trump has criticized the tactical approach of the England national team during their World Cup semifinal against Argentina in North America on Wednesday in Atlanta.

Trump also took aim at German coach Thomas Tuchel's decision to adopt a defensive strategy after England took a 1-0 lead over Argentina.

Speaking at a reception in New York alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump referenced England captain Harry Kane, with whom he played a round of golf in Florida 18 months ago.

The former president said, "You have Harry, a fantastic player for England, but maybe they made a mistake by turning him into a defender."

Trump added, "They went ahead, then took their best player and put him in defense. We should be a bit more attacking, right?"

Tuchel has faced sharp criticism for substituting attackers for defenders in the final half hour of the match against Argentina, which forced England to fall back despite Kane remaining on the pitch.

Lionel Messi exploited the available space and delivered two decisive passes that led to Argentina's goals, sending the South American team to the final.

Tuchel reiterated on Friday that he stands by his tactical decisions, commenting, "I do not regret my choice. I thought we became too passive, and I was trying to help the team."
