Al-Ahli defender Ibanez: Our goal is to overcome Al-Wasl, coach to decide my participation

Al-Ahli defender Roger Ibanez has underlined the difficulty of his team’s upcoming clash against the UAE’s Al-Wasl on Monday evening, as part of the second round of the AFC Champions League Elite (West Zone).

The Saudi side is aiming to bounce back from a disappointing opening round and secure their first Asian win as they travel to face the Emirati club.

Speaking exclusively to Ajel, Ibanez said: “Tomorrow’s match is extremely important for us, especially after our draw in the first round at home in front of our fans. We are entering the game with a clear goal: to claim all three points and achieve our first victory. We have the capabilities and are fully prepared, and we promise our supporters to give everything we have to secure the win.”

On his fitness and return after absence, the Brazilian defender explained: “I suffered a minor injury during the match against Sundowns, which kept me out of the last two games, but I am feeling much better now. My participation in tomorrow’s match will be decided by the coaching staff.”

Al-Ahli has a strong historical record against Emirati clubs, with 14 wins, 5 losses, and 8 draws in previous encounters.
