Brazilian futsal player handed five-year ban after violent assault

A shocking act of violence occurred during the 'Eusébio Municipal' women's futsal tournament in Ceará, Brazil, resulting in a player receiving a five-year suspension.

The incident took place in a match between RDG Sport and AS Resenhas. In the second half, Lara of AS Resenhas was advancing with the ball when Julia from RDG Sport skillfully intercepted it to launch a counterattack. Lara then immediately assaulted her opponent.

In a violent reaction, Lara slid to knock Julia to the ground and then kicked her directly in the head. The attack halted the match and sparked chaos and tension among players and coaching staff, until organizers intervened to break up the altercation and remove Lara from the court.

Julia remained on the ground, screaming in pain, prompting the medical team to rush in and transport her by ambulance to the hospital.

Following a review of the match footage and the referee's report, the local futsal association and tournament organizers announced a strict penalty: Lara has been banned from all competitions and activities organized by the association for five years.
