Neighborhood sports fields in Makkah are witnessing growing popularity as a leading pillar of community sports, having become a preferred destination for young people to play football in an organized, competitive environment. These fields have contributed to discovering new talent and promoting a culture of sports, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to enhance quality of life and increase physical activity participation.

The expansion of public and private sports fields across various districts of the holy city has revitalized the local sports scene, providing modern facilities that host tournaments and leagues throughout the year. This has boosted football participation and raised the level of community sports competitions.

As part of efforts to support sports infrastructure, the Makkah Municipality has continued to develop and upgrade sports facilities within neighborhoods and public parks, preparing more than 118 sports fields of varying sizes, including football, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as walking tracks. These initiatives encourage sports participation and improve quality of life.

Neighborhood leagues have evolved beyond amateur competitions into organized tournaments governed by official regulations, referees, and match schedules. Digital platforms are now used to manage competitions and announce results, improving organization and attracting more teams and players.

Sports enthusiasts note that neighborhood fields have become a key source for discovering talent, coinciding with the growth of specialized sports academies in Makkah. These academies offer training programs for youth and help develop players’ skills. The integration of private fields, sports facilities, and academies has created a comprehensive environment for talent development and enhanced the local sports movement.
