Barcelona omits 'fear clause' in Araujo loan to Liverpool

Barcelona has opted not to include a 'fear clause' in the loan agreement sending Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo to Liverpool during the current summer transfer window. The absence of this clause means Araujo will be eligible to play against Barcelona if the two clubs meet in the 2026/2027 UEFA Champions League.

According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Araujo’s contract with Liverpool contains no provision preventing him from facing his former club. As a result, he will be able to participate in any Champions League matches between the two sides, whether in the group stage or knockout rounds, should the draw pair them together.

Araujo left Barcelona on loan in a move designed to give him more playing time and help him regain his form, following a period in which his appearances for the Catalan giants had significantly declined.

It is common practice for loan contracts to include a 'fear clause' to prevent loaned players from playing against their parent clubs, either outright or by requiring an additional fee for their participation.

Some clubs are wary of the potential impact loaned players could have on match outcomes, especially after allegations surfaced of loanees influencing results.
