Flick backs Yamal for Ballon d'Or, praises Barcelona star's confidence

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has expressed his full support for young star Lamine Yamal in the race for the Ballon d'Or, praising his high level of confidence and outstanding performances for the team. Flick made the comments during a press conference ahead of Barcelona's match against visitors Racing Santander in the sixth round of La Liga.

Barcelona currently lead the league table with 15 points, while Racing Santander sit in tenth place with 7 points, led by Moroccan star Yassir Zabbiri.

Responding to Yamal's own statements about being worthy of the award, Flick said that while he prefers young players not to get involved in such debates, he believes Yamal deserves it for his achievements. "When he says he deserves it, he absolutely does. He has won two titles with us and the World Cup," Flick stated.

The German coach added that Yamal possesses great self-confidence, which is evident in his performances on the pitch. Flick noted that this confidence is an important asset for the team and reiterated his full support for the player.

Flick dismissed concerns that the pursuit of individual awards like the Ballon d'Or could distract his players, emphasizing that the team works hard every day and everyone understands the importance of collective achievements, which in turn make players worthy of individual honors.
