Esports World Cup: Chess Tournament Advances as Four Players Qualify for Quarterfinals

The chess tournament, one of the official competitions in this year's Esports World Cup held in Riyadh, continues its matches through August 24.

The group stage featured intense competition among some of the world’s top chess players and concluded with four players advancing to the quarterfinals. Indian player Nihal Sarin of S8UL Esports qualified after defeating Anish Giri and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

Russian player Ian Nepomniachtchi of Aurora Gaming advanced after wins against Vladislav Artemiev and Andrey Esipenko.

American player Hikaru Nakamura of Team Falcons secured his place by overcoming Wei Yi, while Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov of NAVI qualified after defeating Fabiano Caruana and Jan-Krzysztof Duda.

The quarterfinal and semifinal matches are scheduled to begin today at the SNB Esports Arena, with fans eagerly anticipating which players will make it to the final.
