Yamal wore the armband at 19 years and 58 days old, breaking the previous record held by Bojan Krkic, who captained the team in a Copa del Rey match in 2010 at the age of 20.

Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo described Yamal's appointment as captain as a "major surprise," but noted that his teammates already view him as a football leader on the pitch due to his star status. The report also highlighted that his selection came at the expense of Gavi.

Flick explains captaincy choices

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick explained that he had chosen Raphinha and Pedri as team captains, while the players voted for three more: Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong, and Lamine Yamal. Flick added: "I've spent three years here and now have a better understanding of the team. I decided Raphinha and Pedri would be captains, and the squad voted for Lamine, Eric, and de Jong."

Flick continued: "Now, my staff and I have a clearer sense of the squad's dynamics, and it's important to know who has the greatest influence. That's why I chose Raphinha and Pedri," emphasizing the need for players who can express their opinions and take responsibility.
