Arne Slot explains decision to withdraw from Netherlands coaching talks

Arne Slot, the former Liverpool manager, confirmed that he had entered talks with the Royal Dutch Football Association to become head coach of the Netherlands national team, but withdrew due to his desire to continue working at club level.

Slot clarified that reports suggesting he pulled out over disagreements regarding contract details such as salary and duration were inaccurate, noting that negotiations had not reached that stage.

Speaking to Voetbal International magazine, Slot added that his decision was motivated by his wish to work with players on a daily basis on the training ground, something that is difficult to achieve with national teams.

Developments in the Netherlands coaching position

Ronald Koeman resigned as Netherlands head coach after the team's exit from the World Cup at the hands of Morocco on penalties in the round of 32 last June.

Meanwhile, news reports have indicated that Roberto Martinez, the former Portugal national team manager, is in talks with the Dutch FA regarding the position.

Slot expressed his respect for the Netherlands team and the national association, stating that coaching the national side would be a great honor in the future, but emphasized that now is not the right time for him to take the role.
