FIFA launches investigation into World Cup final incidents

FIFA has announced that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association and three of its players following incidents that erupted after their defeat in the World Cup final against Spain.

The investigation into the Argentine FA concerns four potential breaches of FIFA's disciplinary code: using a sporting event as a platform for non-sporting demonstrations, team misconduct, discrimination and racist incidents, as well as issues related to order and security during matches.

FIFA's statement cited "discriminatory chants and gestures," delays to the start of some matches, and "inappropriate messages displayed by the team and fans," in addition to spectators throwing objects during several matches, without providing further details.

In a separate matter, the disciplinary committee has also opened proceedings against Argentine players Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, and Thiago Almada, assistant coach Roberto Ayala, and Spanish defender Gavi, over violent incidents that occurred after Spain's victory in the final.
