Xabi Alonso to make Chelsea debut at Stamford Bridge against Luton

Xabi Alonso will begin his official tenure as Chelsea manager at Stamford Bridge with a Carabao Cup second-round match against Luton Town, following the draw for the English Football League Cup.

The second-round fixtures are scheduled to take place in less than two weeks, making the Luton Town clash Alonso's first competitive game in front of Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge in West London.

Alonso spoke about his anticipation for the experience at Chelsea's home ground, saying: "I will definitely get goosebumps leading Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. These are special days at your new club, and you want to perform well. We want to feel that from day one, and we need to build that connection so we feel strong when playing at home."

Before his official debut, Alonso will take charge of his first match at Stamford Bridge during pre-season, as Chelsea host his former club Real Sociedad in a friendly ahead of the competitive campaign.

Chelsea's opening Premier League fixture will be away from home, facing Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday, August 24.
