Scaloni says 2022 World Cup final experience no advantage for Argentina against Spain

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has said that facing Spain in the 2026 World Cup final will be a major challenge, stressing that Argentina’s experience in the 2022 final does not give them a clear advantage ahead of the highly anticipated clash, set for Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Speaking at the official press conference, Scaloni noted that Spain’s technical and tactical abilities are a cause for concern, adding that every aspect of the Spanish team warrants caution, especially given their impressive performances under coach Luis de la Fuente.

The Argentine coach added that both teams share a similar style, focusing on possession and building play from the back. He expressed hope that both sides will deliver a match worthy of a tournament final.

Scaloni also praised Argentina captain Lionel Messi, calling his achievement of reaching the final at age 39 exceptional. Messi currently shares the top scorer spot with France’s Kylian Mbappé, with eight goals each.
