French police arrest suspect over plot targeting Kylian Mbappé

French police have arrested an 18-year-old man, identified as Clément L., on suspicion of plotting to target 26 individuals, including Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé, several footballers, a rapper, and wealthy businesspeople, according to Le Parisien.

The newspaper reported that Clément L. is being held on charges of armed robbery and leading a criminal gang, after police apprehended him following an attack on a watchmaker in Neuilly-sur-Seine last April.

Authorities have charged him with gang-related armed robbery, alongside an alleged accomplice, with the indictment dated August 21, 2026. The suspect is believed to be the mastermind behind a series of home invasions and kidnapping plots, either carried out or planned between April 11 and August 19 in several areas.

Le Parisien indicated that the gang had planned to kidnap and assault businesspeople, as well as a rapper and Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé.

Clément L. has been placed in solitary confinement, while his alleged accomplice was released under judicial supervision. A prosecutor stated that the young man had previously been imprisoned for serious crimes, and that solitary confinement was deemed appropriate given his erratic criminal behavior.
