First phase of 2027 AFC Asian Cup volunteer interviews begins in Khobar

The first phase of in-person interviews for applicants to the 2027 AFC Asian Cup volunteer program has begun in Khobar, as part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing preparations to host the tournament from January 7 to February 5, 2027.

The program has seen strong interest since registration opened, attracting over 30,000 applications. Registration remains open until August 31.

This initial phase will see more than 3,000 interviews conducted in Khobar over 10 days, as part of a two-month program that will later include over 5,000 interviews in Riyadh and more than 3,000 in Jeddah. Volunteers will be selected and assigned to 20 different work streams.

Following the interviews, specialized field training programs will be held, covering operational, media, and organizational roles to prepare volunteers for their duties during the tournament. These training sessions are scheduled to begin in November.

The volunteer program is a key pillar in organizing the tournament, supporting operational and organizational aspects, and helping deliver a comprehensive experience for teams, fans, and media. Volunteers can also log their hours through the National Volunteer Work Platform.

The 2027 AFC Asian Cup will feature 24 teams competing in 51 matches across eight stadiums in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Khobar, marking the first time Saudi Arabia hosts the continental tournament.
