Saudi Arabia defeat Kuwait 1-0 in Gulf Cup opener in Jeddah

Saudi Arabia's national football team kicked off their Gulf Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Kuwait in the opening match of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup, held today at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, as part of Group A's first round.

The only goal of the match came in the 73rd minute, when Kuwaiti player Youssef Al-Haqan inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Saudi Arabia dominated the game and secured their first three points of the tournament, putting themselves early in contention for a semifinal spot.

The match drew a large crowd, marking the opening of the 27th edition of the Gulf Cup, which Jeddah is hosting for the first time. Eight Gulf teams are competing for the title until October 6.

With this win, Saudi Arabia lead Group A with three points, while Kuwait remain without points as the first round continues.
