100 days to FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, 48 teams to compete

The countdown has begun for the second edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar 2026, with just 100 days remaining until the much-anticipated tournament kicks off in Doha from November 19 to December 13.

The organizing committee said in a statement that Qatar’s hosting of the tournament for five consecutive editions until 2029 reflects its leading status in staging major global sporting events and strengthens its legacy in football development.

The previous edition in 2025 was a major success, marking the first time 48 teams participated in a FIFA tournament. Preparations are underway for the 2026 edition, which will also feature 48 teams and 104 matches, with up to eight games played daily during the group stage.

Rising stars and world-class stadiums

The tournament serves as a platform for discovering promising talent. The 2025 edition saw the emergence of Egyptian player Hamza Abdelkarim, a Barcelona star, who continued to shine in the 2026 tournament.

All matches will be held at the Aspire Zone complex, while Khalifa International Stadium—one of the most prominent sports landmarks in Qatar—will host the final. The stadium previously witnessed Portugal’s triumph in front of more than 38,000 fans in the last edition.

Festivities and a historic milestone

Fans can expect a festive atmosphere under the theme “TMRW’s GOAT,” celebrating future stars with cultural and entertainment activities in the fan zone.

The tournament also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Khalifa International Stadium, inaugurated in 1976, one of the most prominent sports landmarks in Qatar, which has hosted numerous major events, including matches during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
