Yazeed Al-Rajhi returns to Baja Aragon after wildfire delay, teams up with Dennis Zenz

Saudi rally champion Yazeed Al-Rajhi is set to compete in the 2026 Baja Spain-Aragon after the rally was rescheduled following a delay caused by wildfires near the race route. Organizers postponed the event to ensure the safety of participants, teams, and spectators.

Al-Rajhi’s challenge in the 42nd edition of Baja Aragon will see a change in his crew, as his German co-driver Timo Gottschalk was sidelined by rib fractures sustained in a motorcycle accident. Until Gottschalk recovers, German co-driver Dennis Zenz will partner with Al-Rajhi for this rally.

Al-Rajhi will drive a Toyota Hilux T1+ prepared by Belgian team Overdrive Racing, competing in the fifth round of the 2026 FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas, hosted in Teruel, Aragon, in northeastern Spain.

Baja Aragon is one of the world’s most prestigious baja rallies, first held in 1983. This year’s event features top international cross-country rally drivers, all vying for the 42nd edition’s title in a fiercely competitive field.

The rally covers a total distance of 810.11 kilometers, including 488.68 kilometers of competitive stages. The route comprises a 6.48-kilometer qualifying stage, a first stage of 331.15 kilometers, and a final stage of 151.07 kilometers, featuring fast and technical gravel and dirt tracks that demand maximum concentration.

Earlier this season, Al-Rajhi competed in the 2026 Dakar Rally and participated in the Portugal and Argentina rounds of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC). His World Cup for Bajas appearances have so far been limited to the opening round in Hail, as he gradually returns to full fitness following rehabilitation.

The Saudi champion aims to deliver a strong performance at Baja Aragon and continue competing at the highest level of international cross-country rallying, despite the recent crew change.

Al-Rajhi said: “First, I wish Timo a speedy recovery and hope he returns to competition soon. Changing co-drivers before the rally is a new challenge, but Dennis is very experienced and we are ready to compete and give our best.”

He added: “The decision to postpone the rally was made to ensure everyone’s safety. We look forward to returning to one of the world’s toughest and most historic baja rallies. Our goal is to perform strongly and achieve the best possible result, God willing.”
