Spain deserve Ballon d'Or recognition, says De la Fuente

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said he always strives for perfection, but acknowledged that defeat is always possible. Speaking at a press conference after Spain’s 4-1 victory over Croatia, he said: “By nature, I always seek perfection, and I am convinced there is room for improvement. The players share this feeling with me.”

He added: “There is huge potential for development. They have not yet reached their full capabilities, and the team includes very young players.” He also noted that a tough setback will come one day: “We will lose a match and then the conversation will change. We can improve and do not want to become victims of our own success.”

On the Croatia match, De la Fuente said: “The first half could have ended 4-1 or 5-1. The second half was quite similar. We faced a team that defends well and is strong in the air.”

The Spain coach praised star Lamine Yamal, saying: “He is eager to keep improving and to show his abilities to the world. He is very humble, and that is what makes him a great player.” He added: “We have enjoyed his football magic, which he puts at the service of the team. In the future, he will be even more appreciated for his contributions to the team’s collective performance. We are lucky to have him.”

Regarding the Ballon d’Or race, De la Fuente said: “Spanish football deserves to win some Ballon d’Or awards. Our players are the best in the world. It does not matter if the winner is Fabian Ruiz, Lamine, Rodrigo, Marc Cucurella, or Ferran Torres. All I hope is that they receive the recognition they deserve.”

De la Fuente reassured fans about midfielder Martin Zubimendi, confirming he is suffering from a calf strain and not a serious injury. He also explained that Alejandro Grimaldo felt discomfort in his thigh and will undergo tests, adding, “It is possible he may not be able to continue with us.”
