Kuwait and Iraq ramp up preparations ahead of Gulf Cup clash in Jeddah

Kuwait national team coach Helio Sousa has confirmed his squad is ready to face Iraq on Thursday in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup, which will be held at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sousa described the match as a challenge for Kuwait, which is aiming to improve its performance and implement new strategies. He noted the difficulties faced in the last 30 minutes of their previous game, emphasizing the need to play with strength and enthusiasm, and to develop both physical and technical aspects against an Iraqi team featuring players based abroad.

Kuwait player Nasser Faleh said preparations are going well, with the squad working to correct mistakes and get ready to secure three points and bring joy to Kuwaiti fans.

Meanwhile, Iraq coach Graham Arnold expressed his anticipation for the match, highlighting that the Gulf Cup provides an opportunity to test new players and prepare them for the future. He pointed out that half of his squad played in the World Cup, while the other half consists of new faces.

Arnold added that he has been following the Kuwaiti team, which includes several young players, and stressed the importance of youth in national teams.

Iraq player Amir Al-Ammari said the team has studied Kuwait, describing them as an improving side. He affirmed that Iraq's players will give their all in the match, adding that weather conditions are not an excuse for professionals, especially since the team has played previous matches in Saudi Arabia.
