Egypt footballer Zizo urges reflection after earthquake shakes nation

Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, Al-Ahly and Egypt national team footballer, posted an emotional message on Instagram early Monday following the earthquake that caused panic among millions across Egypt at dawn.

Egyptian authorities reported that a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the country at 3:00 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located 38 kilometers from Suez. The tremor lasted for about 30 seconds, prompting widespread concern among residents.

Zizo wrote: "A few seconds of fear were enough to make everything in life seem small in people’s eyes, and to remind everyone that in the end, there is no refuge but God. Life is too short to live it in conflict, injustice, or anger, and too short to let worldly matters distract us from the day we will all face." He added: "Work, strive, and dream, but as you build your life, don’t forget to build for your hereafter. Don’t delay repentance or any good deed you can do, or any right you can restore. Perhaps God sends us moments like these not just to make us afraid, but to wake us up, to reflect, and to realize that having a second chance is a blessing in itself."

Controversial transfer and international career

Zizo moved from Zamalek to Al-Ahly a year ago in a highly controversial transfer, with both clubs exchanging complaints over financial entitlements. The dispute continues to escalate, with expectations that the case may be referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The player represented Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but did not make a significant impact and faced criticism after missing a clear chance in a match that saw Egypt defeat New Zealand.
