Palestinian youth footballer Fadi Al-Nassan dies after West Bank shooting

Fadi Hamdallah Al-Nassan, a 17-year-old Palestinian footballer for Al-Mughayyir Club and the Palestinian youth national team, has died from gunshot wounds a week after being shot during an attack by Israeli settlers on the village of Al-Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank, according to officials and family members.

Al-Nassan's funeral was held on Saturday, with his body taken from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to his hometown of Al-Mughayyir. Dozens of mourners, some dressed in black, attended the ceremony before his burial.

The Palestinian Football Association accused Israeli forces of shooting the player during the July 11 attack on Al-Mughayyir. In a statement on social media, it said: "This morning, Al-Mughayyir Club and youth national team player Fadi Hamdallah Al-Nassan (17 years old) was martyred, succumbing to wounds from Israeli occupation forces' gunfire in Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah."

Al-Nassan was struck in the thigh by an explosive bullet about a week ago and underwent a leg amputation in an attempt to save his life, but he later died from his injuries, ending his football career prematurely.

With Al-Nassan's death, the Palestinian Football Association announced that the number of Palestinian sports community members killed since October 7, 2023, has risen to 1,013, including 568 from the football community.
